Mountain Climbing is always in the heart of nature lovers, especially reaching the top of the mountain. The feeling of satisfaction and victory captivates my mind as a climber. It motivates me to not easily give up, but to strive for the best in everything I do. The vertical climb at Gunung Parang gave me the energy boost that I needed for a long time.

Vertical Climb at Gunung Parang

I have tried this vertical climb at Gunung Parang via Ferrata in Kampung Cihuni, Desa Sukamulya, Kecamatan Tegalwaru, Kabupaten Purwakarta district of West Java. There are 2 points that you can choose to reach. The 300m and the 900m. Both look easy but need a high fighting spirit against the challenging climb towards the top.

There were 8 of us in a group. We stayed overnight at the forest accommodation before the ultimate climb the next day. The following day, we had a tremendous Indonesian fried rice and coffee for breakfast. At 0730 sharp, with all the climbing gears worn, we started our climbing journey first by walking through the rattan suspended bridges. So after about 20 minutes of walking, we stopped to rest. Later, the guide briefed us on climbing safety and taking all the precautionary steps.

This Gunung Parang is the highest Ferrata Climb in Indonesia and the second highest in Asia. The Ferrata (Italian for ‘iron way’) is a mountain route equipped with steel cables, ladders and other fixed anchors. For example, wooden walkways and suspended bridges. This artificial equipment renders workable an exposed way even to the inexperienced climber. So it allows those not versed in climbing to climb vertical walls and reach mountain peaks.

While having that challenging climb for newbies like me, I enjoyed the beautiful view from the charismatic Gunung Parang. The Citarum River and Jatiluhur Water Reservoir further add the most prosperous woodland scenery. With the freshness of the forest breeze, my heart could work the extra mile by reaching the top, supplying me with the power and stamina that I always needed.

The Sun. For the first time in many months, I finally feel the intimacy and the love of the mighty Sun. I missed the Sun so much that I feel like hugging it close to me. I need lots of Vitamin D, baby!

Gunung Bongkok and Gunung Lembu’s presence both make a perfect combination as a picturesque sunrise canvas. They even looked great when I held that historical metal plate showing ‘I have made it to the top!’ – YES!!

Wow, that must have been fantastic. I loved Indonesia very much, but only from ‘sea level’

I would recommend you to have a feel of the mountain view. It’s breath taking. I’m enjoying every second of my life here in Indonesia.
