Background

This Sunda Kelapa Harbor Front is an old port key figure in Jakarta’s history since the Sundanese Kingdom, back in the 13th century. Now, this port only accommodates traditional boats lined up neatly in a rustic harbor, ornate and painted in beautiful colors.

It is a charming sight to see. However, the government moved the major trading activities to the newly built Tanjung Priok port.

This port has a nickname of ‘Roads of Batavia’ or (Haven Kanaal in Dutch) during the Dutch colonization because is the only entrance to Batavia.

The Sunda Kelapa Harbor Front, along with its surrounding area, is now known as the Old City of Jakarta. Soon this historical neighborhood that gave birth to the now-metropolitan capital city.

Personal Opinion

I have been living in Jakarta for almost 6 years now. Jakarta, to some, is a city of hope because is a place where they strive to make their dreams come true. Others feel that life in Jakarta is too exhausting. They can’t wait to pack up and leave to take roots somewhere else.

So, love it or hate it, be it lockdown or not, Jakarta is a melting pot that brings together people from a wide variety of nationalities and backgrounds. ‘Apa kabar orang Jakarta?’ – means ‘How are you, people in Jakarta?’ in Bahasa Indonesia

‘Jakarta—a land of wonders and many memories.’
