Updated: March 13, 2022 – My Favorite Corner
Estimated reading time: 5 minutes
This is my favorite corner since the pandemic started. It has changed my life entirely. My inner voice comes to life, where I put them into my manuscript, writing and blogs. With this small area of 1.2 m x 1.3 m, I could be able to focus and divert all my attention to what I am doing. All my books and personal things are at a reachable distance even when I sit comfortably on my executive chair.
If anything in this world deserves to be on a beautiful pedestal, it’s my books because I believe every home should have a reading corner or a library. Reading has so many benefits. Don’t hide your books away, it’s not too difficult to turn your book obsession into a design feature. I get inspirations from this sweet spot, even when I go to sleep at night.
During the lockdown, I am reading the most out of my entire life, which is a book a week. Never before. A mini-library at home is perhaps every bookworm’s veritable paradise. Well, here is the way to create a mini library, right at home.
If you have the desire to learn a particular thing, I guarantee you that there’s a book out there to teach you exactly what you desire, which is why I believe that everyone should have a home library. It doesn’t have to be as vast and elaborate as your dream library, but it should suit your specific needs.
Collecting books can become addicting, but it should center on the main purpose of your search on what you can learn from your books rather than how aesthetically pleasing they are. To avoid collecting books that will only sit on the shelf and collect dust, you must ask yourself this question: “What do you want your personal library to do for you?” After you’ve figured out the answer, the search will begin.
Analyze the books that you’ve already read. What type of books were they? What genre category did they fall into? Were they fiction or nonfiction? Did you like them, love them, or dislike them passionately? Because knowing what types of books you prefer will make the challenge of finding books a lot easier. I’ve found that once I narrowed down the books that I’m interested in, my reading has multiplied significantly because it was no longer a pain to get through a book. Another whimsical thing that I’ve noticed is that the books magically find their way to me. I’m a firm believer that when you express the desire to learn and understand something, the right book will reveal itself to you at the perfect time.
After you’ve narrowed down the type of books you love, use those books as references. Sometimes the authors suggest other books for you to read in the book itself. Look out for quotes that they’ve included and the sources that they’ve mentioned― that, right there, is pure gold. Because this is the ultimate, start to curating your book collection for your home library.
If it’s a fictional book that doesn’t mention any sources, hop down to your nearest bookstore and ask for help with finding similar books. Booksellers are the best at helping you find the right book, so use their knowledge.
Don’t let your books sit on the shelf gathering dust. They don’t serve their purpose this way. Challenge yourself to read twenty-five minutes every day, and you are into a shock at how many books you’ll get through in a month, three months, and a year. Keep building the muscles of your brain by challenging its limits and feeding it new ideas to ponder.
I even set my low-cost mini studio for any Zoom Meetings in my favorite corner of mine. Almost overnight, nearly every one of us has become impromptu TV presenters. Half of us use video-conferencing routinely, both for work and in our social lives. Looking good on video used to be necessary for celebrities and creators. Now it’s essential for everyone.
My broadcasting is also too varied and random for me to create a dedicated video space. Since the pandemic began, I’ve done chat sessions, webinars, and YouTube live streams, as well as formal and social meetings.
To look relatively decent on Zoom, using the equipment I have purchased, it costs under USD 150 to build. These are the 3 most tech essentials to have decent video communication and collaboration experience.
1. Desk Area Setup
2. Good Webcam
3. Comfortable Headset
What can I say? I love a good looking, inexpensive DIY solution because home zoom studio is here to stay and will only intensify. Crafting an online strategy based on your business’s needs will be critical to its success.
A work place, mini library, or mini studio. All in my favorite corner. What more can you ask for?
