Updated: March 17, 2022 – Hiking Relaxes Your Mind
Estimated reading time: 2 minutes
It has been a year since the pandemic; everyone seems to work out and exercise a lot, including me. I have lost 6 kilos—unexpected side effect from the lockdown. Of course, eating home cook food contributes to a more healthy diet.
Pre Covid-19, I had a very active lifestyle. I was never one to sit still and stay at home. I was always doing something, whether it was going to work, going out with friends, exercising, hiking, travelling or food hunting. Sometimes I got myself carried away and over-indulged without watching my portions.
There have been various suggestions why excess weight could increase the severity of COVID-19 symptoms. Stored fat leads to high levels of inflammation, which can reduce the effectiveness of the immune system, and make the lungs less efficient in the face of a viral infection. But the evidence on obesity and COVID-19 is new and still emerging.
Hiking has always been one of my favourite outdoor activities because there’s nothing quite like a pleasant walk. It still obeys the social distancing rule of 2 meters apart. Lacing up my hiking shoes and heading into the great outdoors offers a refreshing dose of fresh air; thought-clearing exercise and an unrivalled sense of freedom. Hiking relaxes your mind.
Walking is an excellent way to experience a new place because I can hear birdsong, smell fruity air and feel the exhilaration of a bracing wind on my face.
The best thing is I don’t have to look far to find a good walking route. From beautiful Bogor to the southernmost of west Java, there’s everything from gentle jaunts to hardcore hikes to choose from in Indonesia.
Therefore, the feeling of greatness after each hike is beyond my description of words.
‘Exercise not only changes your body, it changes your mind, your attitude and your mood!’

Hiking is great for writing too. I get my better ideas during walks and treks.

You get to be closer to nature and your inner voice prevails.

I agree completely. Hiking gives me peace and quiet to think as much or as little as I want. Sometimes I hike TO think about big things I’m working through and sometimes I hike NOT TO think about all the things that may be overwhelming me. It’s entirely restorative!

Completely agree with you.
