Estimated reading time: 2 minutes
1998. Our second year at the Veterinary Medicine Faculty, University of Putra Malaysia (UPM), having our animal husbandry weekly training on goats. One of my happiest memories is the day that I spent after each practical session; we would hang around the old aeroplane, in front of the animal sheds for chat and laughter.
There were 52 of us in the class from all parts of the country. Two were from Brunei, One from Japan and another one from the UK. Although we were from different backgrounds, but shared the same interest. We looked upon our seniors and helped and guided our juniors.
University life was my joyful moment in life. Those 5 years were full of sweet memories, because of gaining freedom from my parents—having parties. Eating what I want when I want, as well as making lifelong friends. Hotmail was a hit. Few had a taste of Nokia phones. Had my first bicycle, which I cycle 10 km every lecture day from my accommodation to the faculty. Had a few falls before I get to balance myself well on the bicycle.
Whether it’s a stressful final year or a fun-loving fresher, there is no doubt university will be some of the best years of my life being a student. That’s life as a vet student. University life allows me to be myself—a journey of self-discovery.
